E Farnham of Hollywood California stopped off in Cedar City to Twin rvin Falls Idaho where he owns a farm that is producing alfalfa seed In talking with a Record reporter Mr Farnham stated that In California they produce an average of about six bushels of alfalfa seed to the acre acre- In I I Twin Falls and that section 24 bushels I Ito to the acre Clean Grimm seed said Mr Farnham will bring 25 cents per pert per r I pound so it is a good crop to raise raise raise-in In some of the country I j Mr Farnham then went on to state state that the alfalfa blossom is different to the blossoms on other plants in that nature has not provided a way for the flowers to open automatically it re requires requires requires re- re quires a heavy wind to whip the alfalfa alfalfa alfalfa alf alf- alfa to force them open so I I Ican j can be carried on In some sections what Is called the tripping system has been used to good effect but that requires requires re- re re-j re quires work and expense The most successful place to grow alfalfa seed said Mr Farnham Is in a section where the wind ind blows hard and where the I soil conditions are right He then went on to explain that there Is no better place in all the world i j to produce good alfalfa seed than in inthe inthe inthe the Escalante valley some 35 miles j I I west of Cedar City Conditions there are ideal he said and added Myself and others are making arrangements to produce alfalfa seed there on a a. a large scale I When asked where he proposed to get water for Irrigation he said We will have no trouble in tapping the underground supply and securing all the water we need That has already been demonstrated and that Is the I Ionly only kind of Irrigation water we voe would j j I juse use in producing pure Grimm seed as asIt asit asit it carries no collection of weed seed seedon seed I on to the farm |
