Show THE MEETING OF THE democratic LEADERS OF UTAH ON monday march 28 a majority of the prominent and influential leaders of our party assembled at the knutsford hotel for the purpose of paying their respects to senator stephen M white of california who is the chairman p if f the democratic congressional campaign committee the ma main M i object of the conference was w to discuss the advisability of fusing fasing or uniting the populist party and those who call themselves free silver republicans with the democratic party but it seemed to he be almost the unanimous opinion of an all who were present that it would be political suicide for our party to surrender its organization at the present time as it would require a vast amount of labor to reorganize it and get it in good fighting trim and condition between now and 1900 all those present expressed a great willingness to extend a warm invitation TO io those who are in favor of free silver to join hands with the democratic party and help belu to assist in in furt furthering heiing the cause caus e which is so dear to tg the hearts of the people of utah it was very gratifying to note that the party leaders w would be more than willing to accord representation to those who have ham heretofore affiliated with other parties if they would attend the primaries county and state conventions and take their chances with the other adherents to the free silver cause the democratic party does not require or exact a long service before it will permit its new members to enjoy all the honors but the last jut is entitled to occupy a prominent seat sea at the banquet table anen the last speaker had finished senator winte white arose ame and roads mad some ome very appropriate remarks and d thanked kw the gentlemen present for fak the cordial manner in which he had been received 3 the X ray bay of ogden intimated a few bew wea weeks ago th thai none dathe leaders leadem of twe fate 1 dorse the S position ift which the marca broad r a E ropo b if jk is i sf ay ff f 35 C y ff f i mh j rth rt 4 j S aa 5 g K k Z 7 |
