Show Mexico Towns Not So Good as Cedar J J. J M. M Foster Since returning to Cedar City from my trip thru Arizona Nevada and parts of California and Mexico I have havet t been n asked aske the question by a number of people as all to where I 1 would rather live ive My answer has hall been that Cedar City is the best town town to live in th that t 1 I know anything about I saw some very fine farming communities communities communities' com com- in Arizona They have a al l longer nger growing season than we have and is better water supply but farmIng farmIng farming farm- farm Ing seems to be their only substantial substantial industry Fuel was expensive and hard to get their graing land compare with ours their tourist traffic traffic traffie fic fie isn't equal to ours I 1 didn't see any farming towns with the mineral resources resources re resources re- re sources in the immediate proximity as Cedar City h Ins has s their climate Is as disagreeable in summer as o ours ours rs is inthe inthe in inthe the winter On my trip to Durango last fall I Idid Idid Idid did see seme some very excellent country There is a plateau about one hundred and fifty miles long and eighty miles wide just of Durango that Isas is isas isas as fine a sheep heep and cattle range as can be found found on earth It has an elevation elevation elevation ele ele- of somewhere around five Ii thousand feet and an excellent climate climate climate cli cli- mate the year round lound When I was there in October the rainy season was just about over and the whole plateau pia pla was a meadow I was told that three of the very best sheep grasses grew glew there and before the revolution there were a hundred thousand head hea of sheep there b but t now there are no sheep and very few cattle The people were ere farming sma small areas about their town and seemed to be bc lai raising ing very verr good crops In fact the whole plateau plateau pla pla- looked to be good farming land On my last trip hip I went to Dublan and the country in that vicinity DubIan Dublan Dub Dub- lan Inn has a very fine climate and a lot lotof lotof lotof of excellent farming land but they didn't seem to have a local market for tor their pr produce duce and couldn't very well ship to the United States on account account account ac ac- ac- ac count of the freight and tariff ex ex- ex- ex l However I did see sec what looked tome tome to tome me to le Je some gome excellent mining properties properties prop prop- there and I believe that if some men would pet get et tog together ther and put up a II few thousand dollars dollars probably ably not more than five or ten thousand thou sand they sand they could develop some ex ex- A 11 h L ce ant mines III t ere 1 I t see lice any any- anything thing that would prevent the successful successful suc suc- operation of mining property There are some mines operating there now and have been blen operating for many years The Mexican government government government govern govern- ment has its mining laws just as we have and so long as they are complied with the owner of mining property can go ahead with his hi business Everything E semis seems to Up he just a as ap peaceful as it is here herc in Cedar Cit City In fact I 1 would feel safer an any place in the interior than I would in the border towns where there is a teny ten ten- dercy der-cy for lor the riff raff raft cf of f both nations nations na na- na- na tiona to accumulate I 1 have also lived in Idaho and while there are some very fine towns there a and d so some e of the largest lentry len len- try yet farming and grazing to some extent are their only substantial industries at least the farming farmin communities communities communities com com- are in this condition They grow some wonderful crops every gated farming districts in the coun coun- year year but on account of having to depend depend depend de- de pend almost entirely on the market for farm produce they suffer Buffer whenever whenever when when- ever er the market is down Their winters winters winters win win- are very disagreeable far more so than ours where we have our blue and sunshine even in the winter except during storm periods Cedar City not only has a great variety of resources but it looks prosperous to any anyone one coming into it The buildings are substantial and she ahe is full of activity Then why hunt for a Fetter better town to live in fo of The Chamber of Commerce party at the B B.
