Show THE HON A W AND MR MRS S mccune ENTERTAIN WHEN the senatorial contest came to an end at 12 I 1 thurida thursday night march ath no on one e dreamed for one minute that any of the aspirants aspi ranta for senatorial honors would have the hardihood or the courage to tender a brilliant banquet and reception to those composing the legislature and numerous others othen who participate in various ways in in the political and business affairs of this state it was generally supposed that the defeated candidates would feel so sorely distressed and disappointed over the termination of the struggle that they would noto not care to be seen in public for man many y moons but this was not the case with the hon A W mccune for on krizay evening that gentleman assisted by his estimable companion tendered a banquet and reception to the members of the legislature and their legions of friends and admirers this brilliant and most elaborate affair was held at the kenyon hotel the parlors the hallways and all the available space on th thea second floor was transformed in ined suh a tropical garden roses cama carna camaj j eions ferns smilax and other rare and beautiful flowers were in great profusion everywhere the reception recep tiou began at 8 and it was long after midnight before the great throng of ladies and gentlemen dispersed the guests were received in the main parlor by the host and hostess assisted by the hon fisher S harris and airs harris and united states senator J L rawlins the costumes costume of the ladies present were simply magnificent and many were attired like beautiful fairy queens this grand affair affail was entirely informal and strictly democratic it was gotten up on very short notice and the rich and thedoor the poor mingled together and chatted with each other like brothers and sisters hews band discoursed classical I 1 selections ons in the hall of the hotel throughout the entire er evening ening the dining room presented an animated scene during the festivities no less than five hundred people were served the repast was very TM elaborate it consisted of and other salads alada ice cream cake etc waitresses faultlessly attired in id snow now white dresses presided at the punch bowls while others served lemonade and champagne which I 1 flowed as free as an water when the guests had satisfied the inner man and slacked their thirst with the cool and sparkling beverages al all those who desired indulged in the merty merry dance in the dining room prominent personages were pres j oat jent on that auspicious occasion from all ov over officials and other eminent citizen all served notice upon the tribune and an d the other vili fiers of mr mccune mccane that they do not regard that gentleman as a a bold bad citizen or briber mrs taylor and had the honor of being present and were accorded respectful consideration by the best beat and the brightest people of this fair state it was our oar pleasure to meet many ladies who stand high in the social circles of this community mrs mccune discharged the duties of hostess to perfection she possesses an ami amiable disposition and is well fitted to perform all the functions pertain ing to the highest society we want to say right here that the democratic party is composed of broadminded noble men and women who as a rule role do not judge men by the color ot of their sk inthe son
