Show Robbers Foiled In Search for Money An attempt to purloin the Gunnison Valley, high school for money or any other valuables that might be found ' was foiled only for the reason that no monies were kept at the school build-! build-! ing. The attempt was made some time Sunday night, and while the robbers , failed to find anything, they did con-' con-' siderable damage to the building. It I is supposed that the prowlers believed that the funds from the basketball game Friday night and the money taken in at the Gold and Green ball Saturday evening were stored in the . offices of Principal Bardsley, as that place was evidently the goal of the robbers. Entrance to the school building was ' made by prying off one of the transoms tran-soms of the study room. Once inside, an attack was made on the door leading lead-ing to the main office. A crowbar was successfully used in "jimmying" the door and in forcing it open it was badly damaged and the lock was broken. Unable to find any loot in the office, the desk, which had been securely se-curely locked, was also attacked and pried open. Still' no money. Papers, books and other articles were strewn over the office floor, indicating that j the robbers made a thorough search of the place in the hopes of locating money which they believed was hidden somewhere in the office. Disappointed in their attempts, the "yeggs'' departed depart-ed and never carried off a ' pencil, many dozens of which were in the desk drawers. Byron Knighton, janitor, arrived at the building shortly before 7 o'clock. As soon as he discovered the attempted attempt-ed robbery he called Marshal Tdlles-trup Tdlles-trup and Principal Leo Bardsley. A close check-up was made and later Sheriff Ed. Peterson was called from Manti. Sheriff Peterson took finger- ' (Continued on last pageV Robbers Foiled In j Search for Money j (Continued from page 1) prints, which he plans to have delve de-lve loped to aid in running down the I burglars. After connecting a few clues together, the opinion was expressed that the work was done by men residing resid-ing in Gunnison, who knew and were familiar wi'h the conditions that would enable them to break into the building, and who believed the money was stored in the principal's office. Fortunately the money from, the basketball bas-ketball game Friday night and the Gold and Green ball Saturday evening had been taken away to private homes. Had it been left at the building, the combined amount would have been near $200. This is the third school house robbery rob-bery in this section for the past year or more. A year ago the Manti high school was raided, and more than a hundred dollars taken. Last November Novem-ber robbers raided North Sevier high school and robbed the safe of more than $500. j I |
