Show REV R MANEY dumo the past week we met the rev R X maney the new pastor of the baptist church and we regret to say that we were greatly disappointed in meeting the doctor A great many of his friends had informed F i med us ns that the doctor was a gentleman of culture and refinement and free from all the old time ire prejudice judice of the past but after we had conversed with the doctor a few moments we carne came to the conclusion that he is incapable of taking a broad and compre comprehend hen ire view of the social locial and political questions which have affected and which will continue to affect not only the negro race but all the other races of the universe he is of the opinion that no member of our ram race can be it a democrat except for monetary consideration he does not seem to realize that we are an living in a new age and that slavery has passed away away never more to appear on these shores again he does not seem to comprehend or to realize the fact that our race is marching onward and is making wonderful progress in science art literature and all the other trades and professions he does not seem to be aware of the fact that our race no longer needs the protection or the guardianship of any political party he does doe not seem to realize that we are american citizens and not negroes |
