Show Relief Societies Start Distribution of Cloth One thousand yards of cotton cloth, to be distributed among those in need, has been received in Gunnison, according to Mrs. C. E. Andersen, formerly head of the local Red Cross chapter. The consignment was received receiv-ed last Friday , and the 1,000 yards will bo distributed in the three wards, Gunnison receiving 473 yards, Cen-torfield Cen-torfield ward, 358, and the Hamilton ward 287 yards. Various assortments comprise the shipment, shirting, dress goods, ginghams, ou'ing flannel and birdscye, and all being superior quality. With the arrival of the clothing the Reliif society organizations in the various wards started a survey to determine de-termine those who are really in dire need, and Tuesday the three allott-m" allott-m" nts were made to the committees who will place the good.",. The receipt of the cotton goods was made through the National American Am-erican Red Cross. The officers of the Red Cross had received the large consignment through the government the cost of convening the raw cotton into goods being financed through the government plan of supplying the needy with clothing. In the distribution of the cloth in this valley, it is announced, the utmost ut-most care is L be used to prevent abuses of the gift. The cloth will be absolutely free, but reasons must be given by those receiving the free gift as every part of the cloth must be accounted for by the local officers to .he National Red Cross. Not alone has the local chapter received re-ceived the consignment of 1,000 yards of cotton cloth, but Mrs. Andersen stated that very soon a shipment of overalls, underwear and stockings would be received, as notice has been given to the effect that a consignment consign-ment has been forwarded to Gunnison. |
