Show Mayfield Pioneer Dies In Gunnison Mrs. Janet Caltort Campbell, a pioneer pio-neer resident of the county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Baxter, Monday night at ten o'clock. Mrs. Campbell, who was 73 years of age, died as a result of heart trouble, from which she had suffered more or less for the past two years. The past month, however, the conditions grew worse and she suffered much, but the closing minutes were peaceful and she passed on with a smile on her face. Members of the family were present to the last. Mrs. Campbell was a native of Scotland and was born at Crawford John, November 22, 1859. When a young woman she was married to Arthur Ar-thur II . Campbell and in 1852 the family came to America, first locating locat-ing at Salt Lake. After a two-year residence there, Mr. and Mrs. Camp-hell Camp-hell wpnt to Mavfield. where thev had resided since. Mr. Campbell died about six years ago. Mrs. Campbell was a member of the Latter Day Saints church and while devoted in her belief, never held any office. She was a kind and loving mother and known for her charming hospitality. Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. Emily Shaffer of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Wm. Baxter, Gunnison; Mrs. William Christopherson and Mrs. B. E. Chris-!opherson Chris-!opherson of Garfield; and two sons, Thomas Campbell of Salt Lake, and John Campbell of Mayfield. Nineteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. All the children, with the exception of Mrs. Shaffer of Portland, Ore., arrived following the announcement of the death of Mrs. Campbell. Funeral services will be held this, Thursday, afternoon at 1 o'clock at Mayfield. Interment will be at the Mayfield cemetery. |
