Show Utah Pedagogues Lowest In Salary Teachers in Salt Lake City, according accord-ing to Secretary D. W. Parratt of the Utah Education association, are most favored in Utah, so far as salaries are concerned. On account of better salaries, the capitol city is the magnet which is constantly drawing the more proficient teachers throughout the state to it. This has been especially true during the last few years. But as Salt Lake City has drawn upon other districts for many of its better teachers, so other cities paying better salaries are constantly drawing upon Salt Lake City. This likewise has been especially true during the last few years. , j In this connection it is interesting to note that our chief city is belcnv the median in salaries paid to teachers teach-ers of all standard divisions of school work in cities of 100,000 or more in population throughout our country. The median annual salary for elementary elemen-tary teachers in all such cities is $2,-0G3. $2,-0G3. That in Salt Lake City is $1,712.! For junior high school teachers in these cities for the nation the median is $2,348. That for Salt Lake City junior high school teachers is $1,815. The median salary paid to senior high school teachers of this group of cities for the nation is $2,680, but that paid to like teachers in Salt Lake City in $1,884. Mr. Parratt says that of all the states in the Union having one or more cities of 100,000 in population, Utah ranks seventh from the bottom in salaries paid to elementary teachers teach-ers of these cities, fifth from the bottom bot-tom for junior high school teachers, and at the very bottom for senior high school teachers. Those of these states below Utah in the pa.ymant of . salaries to elementary school teachers are Alabama, Kentucky, Louiniana, Maryland, Texas and Virginia. AD six-are six-are Southern States. These below Utah in the payment of salaries tn junior high school teachers are Kentucky, Ken-tucky, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia all four are Southern States. No state, not even any in the South, pays lower salaries to its sf nior high school teachers in cities of 100,001) or more than does Utah. |
