Show National Movement For Better Homes Raymond J. Ashton, of Salt Lake City, has been appointed chairman of the Utah State Better Homes com-! mittee. Mr. Ashton's appointment was made from the national office of Better Bet-ter Homes in America, in Washington, Washing-ton, D. C, an organization devoted to the purpose of studying housing conditions and of disseminating information in-formation and stimulating activities which will bring about a wholesome type of home and community life. The organization is headed by Dr. Ray Lyman Wilbur as president, while President Hoover is honorary chairman. chair-man. Headquarters activities in Washington Wash-ington are carried on under the direction direc-tion of Dr. James Ford. Mrs. Rena B. Maycock, state home demonstration agent, Utah Agricultural Agricul-tural college, Logan, will serve as vice-chairman of the state committee and will direct the work in rural districts, dis-tricts, while Mrs. E. E. Ericksen, Salt Lake City, will serve as vice-chair- j man for cities. Miss Jean Cox, state : department of public instruction, Salt Lake City, is secretary of the state committee. The Utah committee, like that in each of the other states, is organized ' for the purpose of adapting the na- j tional educational program to local j needs and of bringing its service into j every community in the state. Mr.! Ashton, who heads this committee, has taken an active interest in the problems of housing and homemaking; throughout the state. Other members ' of the state committee are: Ralph W. These included lectures, debates, contests, and demonstrations arranged to present educational ma- ! I terial which would be helpful in the improvement of local housing and home conditions. Through; i this campaign, findings of the presi-' dent's conference on home building and home ownership will be disseminated dissemin-ated and put into effect in thousands of communities. Special emphasis will t be given throughout the compaign to home care and repair as a means of relieving unemployment and stabilizing stabiliz-ing property values. |
