Show Gunnison Boxers Share In Honors Local pugilists, who were mat-tied on the holiday card at Salina Monday evening, won honors in all events but one. One proved a decided victory and was a clean k. o. in the third round rf a scheduled 5-round bout. Harry Christiansen, the pride of Southern Utah in his class, matched against Young Lavetto of Bingham, bested his man in the third round, when a cleverly-aimed uppercut caught Lavetto- on the chin, sending the latter to the mat for the count of ten. In the fir.-t round of the battle, Hurry had his man measured by a t;hort punch to the chin. Lavetto went down, but was soon up. Not at any time was Christiansen in danger. Claire Tollestrup-, who was featured featur-ed in the main event, being matched against J. Woodmancy, of Bingham, for a 6-round go, wag awarded the decision in the 5th round when a towel was tossed into the ring from the Woodmancy corner. In the 3rd round it was reported Woodmancy had injured his thumb. Ho was in the ring for the 4th and 5th and at th'; end of the fifth he surrendered. While the bout was on, however, there was some clever boxing, both combatants i.howing good work, and it was with much regret that the fight was summarily sum-marily quit. "Kid" Rowe, who hail3 from Carbon county, won a decision over Lloyd Olsen, Ol-sen, popular Gunnison boxer. Olsen went against an experienced boxer, much heavier than himself, and odd4 were against him. He took some fierce blows and delivered some as well. Lack of training on the part of Ol.vri, perhaps, contributed to his defeat. A big crowd of Gunnison fight fans attended at-tended the boxing carnival. |
