Show Cutting Hay Crops Alfalfa, clovers and other hay crops should be cut at the usual stages of maturity this year, even though the drouth in many sections has stunted the growth of the plants, says A. C. Arny, field crops specialist, University Univer-sity Farm, St. Paul. There Is nothing to be gained by delaying the first cutting, cut-ting, as any additional growth can be harvested In later cuttings and the quality of the first crop will be better if harvested at the usual stage. Alfalfa Al-falfa should be cut when one-fourth of the plants are in bloom ; clover when the first heads are turning brown, and timothy right after blossoming. |
