Show HAWK ELECTROCUTED AND IMPAIRS POWER SYSTEM A huge hawk, seeking an early morning breakfast Tuesday, met a! sad fate and incidentally impaired the services of the Utah Power & Light company at Manti. A call from Richfield Rich-field to the effect that service had been injured and that the feeder from the Utah Power & Light company was off, resulted in routing two company com-pany employees at 5 o'clock in the morning. The trouble was located just south of Ephraim by Norman Johnson John-son and F. T. Nelson. Upon reaching the point of trouble, they found a huge bird entangled in the high tension and ground wires. The hawk, indications showed, had lighted on the wire carrying 44,000 volts and in some manner a contact was made with the ground wire, resulting re-sulting in the electrocution of the bird. When the contact was made the high tension wire became heated and broke, thus causing the trouble. The bird, other than having the feathers under the wing and breast singed, was not badly burned. |
