Show Big Sugar Plant Breaking Records Operations at the big sugar mil'., owned by the Gunnison Sugar con.-pany, con.-pany, got well under way Wednesday Wednes-day of last week, and since slicing was started, some new records have been established. The plant, according accord-ing to Hart J. Sanders, superintendent, superinten-dent, is performing better than in previous years, and is maintaining an average of 25 tons more per day than last year. Monday a new record was set, when 908 tons went through .tho mill in 24 hours. Thus far no breaks or other interferences have come np to delay the operations and the big machinery has been kept going steadily stead-ily with a well organized crew of experienced ex-perienced operators. With the signal given to start harvesting har-vesting beets, every grower was "on his toes" and the beets were rushed in faster than ever before, the growers grow-ers taking advantage of the splendid weather. It was necessary, however due to the immense piles that were being delivered, to check harvesting, and this was done the first of thu week. Digging will again starts Friday. Fri-day. Approximately one-half of the crop has been delivered at the factory. fac-tory. The returns from the fields, as indicated in-dicated by the deliveries already made, show that the crop yield will be larger than was at first expected. expect-ed. The long drouth and shortage of water during the time when it was needed most, gave some concern a,! to the yield, but many of the growers grow-ers were agreeably surprised when the average carried higher than was anticipated. It may require 35 days before the entire crop is harvested and sent through the big mill. |
