Show Big Enrollment at School Opening Banishing the thought of a long and happy vacation the students of the city again took up the studies at the opening of school Monday of this week. The registration at the Gunnison Valley high school was exceptionally ex-ceptionally pleasing. The first day's registration showed 140, giving a rain of thirty pupils over the opening open-ing of (the school a year ago. Principal Princi-pal Bardsley and his corps of instructors instruc-tors are highly pleased at the showing show-ing and it is predicted that by the end of the beet vacation the enrollment enroll-ment will reach close to( 200. There is an unusual amount of "pep" in the students and the spirit of work seems foremost with everyone, Principal Bardsley stated, and that the year will prove one of the most successful success-ful is plainly evidenced at the start. The teaching corps at the high school, is as follows: Principal, L. D. Bardsley; history, Miss Ruby Jensen; mechanics and agriculture, I. L. Henrie; household arts, Miss Phoebe Gedge; mathematics and science, Stanley Anderson; music and athletics, Harold Bradley; expression express-ion and english, Mrs. Steven Covey: At the Washington school on registration regis-tration day there was a slight decrease de-crease in attendance over last year. The enrollment Monday snowed a total of 260 as compared with 292 last year. The shortage in attendance on the opening day is accounted for by the fact that the Claron students will not attend the school this year, due to the fact that a new school building has been provided for that district. There are yet a few to enroll and within a week or two it is believed be-lieved that the enrollment will be near normal. The teaching corps, as announced by Principal J. E. Metcalf, has been placed as ollows: Mrs. Charlotte Villard, seventh grade; Alma Fred-ricksen, Fred-ricksen, sixth grade; Ida Johnson, fifth grade; Thelma Sanderson, fourth grade; Alta Peterson, third grade; Mary Nielson, second grade; Lillie Johnson, first grade. Heretofore very few of the parents of Gunnison have been manifestly interested in-terested in the schools and very few visit the school room to witness the process of education. The faculty of both the high school and the public schools are interested in the education educa-tion of the children and the parents should be more so. It is being urged that parents give more heed in the education ed-ucation of the children and cooperate with the teachers in attaining the highest efficiency. A visit to the room where your child is being trained for future life will not only help the student but will be a great aid to its instructor. Boith Principal Bardsley and Principal Metcalf invit parents to visit the school more often and give suggestions that would help in any particular case. |
