Show New Mining District Will Benefit Valley With the assembling of all machinery, ma-chinery, the building of the gallows frame, cementing of the 25-h.p. gasoline gaso-line hoist, erection of blacksmith shop and other necessary houses, the management of the Salina Zinc and Lead company announces that real debelopment work is to be started on the properties just north qf town. The 50-foot shaft which was sunic by the former owners, is being widened wid-ened to provide for a man-way and to allow for the installation of the regulation size timbering. This work has been completed to a depth of 40 feet and is being hurried along a'i rapidly as possible. To aid in rushing, rush-ing, this work buckets have been installed, in-stalled, the cable connected and the. work is going ahead in fine shape. Considerable high grade zinc, silver and lead ore is being extracted in the process of widening the shaft and all of it is being stored for future shipment. ship-ment. Nearly two carloads have been already taken out thus far. It is proposed, the management stated, 'that just as soon as the shaft is properly timbered to the 50-foot level, the work of sinking to the 100-foot 100-foot point will be hurried along. From this point crosscuts and drifting drift-ing will be started and various points, whicli show splendid values on the surface, will be tapped at a greater depth. The values showing at the depth of the point where the timbering has reached, are remarkably remark-ably high. The vein averages close to five feet and two feet of this shows a carbonate of zinc, carrying average values of GO per cent in zinc, while four feet shows assay values in zinc averaging 40 per cent. Next to the hanging wall is found about 18 inches running well in lead and silver. sil-ver. All of this showing has been made in the shaft. It is confidently believed by the geologists, two of whom have already made a close examination of the holdings of the zinc and lead company, com-pany, and the many mining engineers engi-neers and experts who have examined exam-ined the formation, that the prospects pros-pects for opening a big producer, is practically assured. The main strike of the vein runs north and south, has been opened at points for more than .a mile through test shafts, and in every instance splendid values have been uncovered. At a point about 1000 feet south of the shaft a huge blowout of ore has been discovered. The ore showing on the surface at this point is regarded as wonderful and good assays in zinc, lead and silver sil-ver has been found. Farther to the east a vein measuring better than fourteen feet in width has been uncovered, un-covered, being discovered when excavating ex-cavating for a powder house. This latter vein strikes for the main north and south vein coursing the property. proper-ty. Where the big veins intersect will be the objective point for drift-' drift-' ing when the shaft reaches the 100-' 100-' foot level and, if theories of geologists geolo-gists are correct, and they usually prove so, then a real shipper and a . b'g producer will be opened up. Olif Jeppson and associates, operating oper-ating a promising group of claims southeast from the Salina Zinc and Lead properties, is driving a tunnel to tap an immense vein running high in lead and silver. The outcroppiugs are among the best found in the new Salina mining district and something of a sensational nature is expected when the h's vein is tapped. Mr. Jeppson expects to reach the ledge within the next 60 days. Due to the immense showing on the Salina Zinc and Lead company's property and that of Mr. Jeppson, considerable activity is now evidenc-J evidenc-J ed and plans are being made to star1 : work on many of the claims.
