Only the briefest accounts have been received in official quarters and no definite information had been received as to the number and names of the foreigners killed and wounded. Government Gov-ernment spokesmen deplore the happenings hap-penings and declare that the guilty Chinese will be held responsible for the attack. The rapidity developing events will be left largely in the hands of the British representatives on the spot and any action they deem necessary neces-sary to protect life will be backed to the limit. |
