Show liEllATIXG Ol' It BOYS. J We should like to know what good the Ilrighnm City correspondent correspond-ent to the Ogden Standard expects ex-pects to accomplish by so frequently frequent-ly and persistently berating the 1 small boys and young men of, this city. Some of our boys, but not ;all by a long way, may deserve harsh lectures or even severe ! punishment, but irate communi nations to foreign papers will not serve the purpose. It only tends to give the town, ami especially our youth, an undesirable reputa-j reputa-j tion abroad. These arc strictly home matters; the effective work of reformation must bo done right here at home, and the closer the state of affairs is kept and the narrower nar-rower the limits, so much the better bet-ter and so much easier will bo the tusk of accomplishing the desired cure ov reined-. Would ynu write to Chinese papers, the New York World or the Denver Ilrpvblican to j influence the Brigham peojile to j work moral reformations? Would any of those mediums be the j proper channel? No; the home ; paper should be used, if any, to work for home improvements; but in the case of ecil tendencies among the young, the newspaper newspa-per should be the last resort. Those evils should be treated at home, ; and the less they are shouted from the housetops the better. We I believe even the writer of the I articles referred to will agree with i us that his course in censuring the I young men through foreign me-j me-j iliuins is not exactly a wise one. |
