Show Chautauqua Opens Next Wednesday The coming of the Radcliffe Chautauqua Chau-tauqua to Gunnison for three days next week, Aug. 11, 12 and 13, is being be-ing looked forward to with more than the usual amount of interest. With the varied program of exercises comprising talent in lectures, music and entertainment, there is little doubt but what the lovers of this class of work will respond readily and give each and every entertainment entertain-ment the full patronage it deserves. For the opening day of the Chau-tauo.ua, Chau-tauo.ua, Wednesday, August 11, the Porter Concert company, in some of the latest and best vocal and instrumental instru-mental music, and J. W. Terry, noted not-ed Chautauqua lecturer, will appear at the afternoon and evening sessions. ses-sions. On the second day, R. P. Carson, director for the Chautauqxua, will give a lecture, using as his subject, "A Canary In a Coal Mine." In the evening Mr. Carson will again appear ap-pear in a lecture on "The Making of An American." Mrs. Cora Melton Cross will amuse the little folks, as well as the older ones, with a program pro-gram of stories and a short talk on the organization of "Young America." Ameri-ca." Loseff's Russian quartet will give concerts both at the afternoon and evening entertainments on Wednesday. For the lectures on the closing day, Guy M. Bingham will appear. In the afternoon lecture his subject will be "Community Leadership," and in the evening "A Tower of Babel." Ba-bel." The Dudos-Starbuck Feature Concert combination will be the musical mu-sical number for the afternoon and evening engagements for the Chau- tauqua. Ernest Dudos, of the Dudos-Starbuck Concert company, comes here with splendid credentials attesting his rare gifts as a pianist. His mother moth-er is a native of Athens, Greece, and is well known as a composer. Mr. Dudos, however, is a native-born American and has appeared repeatedly repeat-edly with the Boston Symphony orchestra or-chestra as concert pianist. His technique tech-nique and phrasing has elicited much admiration and praise from the most conservative critics. His style possesses pos-sesses a quality which cannot be defined, de-fined, but which, nevertheless surely sure-ly and subtly, grips his audiences and holds It with tense interest. The citizens of Gunnison who have been instrumental in billing such a splendid array of artists for the entertainment, en-tertainment, have been to a great expense, and it is the duty of all-to get back of the amusement idea and support it to the fullest extent. Any one of the numbers is well worth the price that is being asked for a season ticket. If you have not already al-ready purchased a ticket, hunt one of the committeemen and give him your order and float the tag that will iden- tify you as being one of the "boosters" "boost-ers" for better entertainment and amusement |
