Show TIGHTWAD DEFINED A "tightwad" is described by the : government as a man who saves 60 cents of every dollar and spends 37 i cents of the balance for living ex- j penses, and one cent each for educa-j (ion, recreation and giving. Through a little book, entitled "How other people get ahead," the government; savings system is endeavoring to interest in-terest the American people, especial-1 ly those with moderate incomes, in thrift. Alongside its designation of "tightwad," it places the spendthrift, described as a man who saves noth-! ing, spends 58 cents of every dollar on living expenses, 40 cents on re-j creation and one cent each for edu- cation and giving. The thrifty man j is designated as one who saves 20 1 cents of every dollar, spends 50 cents i on living and 10 cents each on education, edu-cation, giving and recreation. 1 |
