Show Good Roads Day Througout Utah Through a movement that has been launched in Salt Lake and which has been given hearty ap-prvoal ap-prvoal by Governor Mai) AVednes-day AVednes-day August 3, has been designated as "Good Roads day" throughout the entire state On this day, according to plans mapped out, everybody that is able will be supposed to "get in" and help to some road building or some needed road work. The plan is one of the most logical logi-cal advanced for some time, and if all will join in the movement, more especially in South Sanpete county, much good will result and our disgraceful dis-graceful highways can be put In something like passable condition. The roads from Gunnison to a point near the Sevier county line are much worse than those of many of the mountain roads, and if co-operation can be gained through "Good Roads day" and even a little work, it will prove a big boon to the many travelers trav-elers who are passing over the roads daily going to and from the scenic wonders of South Utah. The following follow-ing letter has been addressed to Mayor Jones from the Rotary club of Salt Lake City: ' Mr. J. W. Jones, Mayor, Gunnison City. Dear Mayor: The Salt Lake Rotary Ro-tary club has secured the consent of Governor Mabey to call upon all of the people of the state of Utah to observe Wednesday, August 3rd, as Good Roads day, on which day the people of every community in the state will be called upon to do some road construction or repair work. It is our intention to make this day an annual event and the main object is to center the attention of all of the people on the subject of good roads and to get their active co-operation toward the construction of good roads and their proper maintenance. main-tenance. We are hoping that all of the clubs and organizations in your city and county can be induced to get their memberships out and, under the direction di-rection of the county commissioners in each county, the work should be divided up among the various localities locali-ties and clubs, so that during the day very much of needed repairs on the roads of the state can be made. Will you advise Mr. Geo. O. Relf, chairman of the Good Roads day committee of the Salt Lake Rotary club what progress you are able to make? We want to give this thing the broadest kind of publicity in all papers throughout the state, and we hope that you can take care of local publications. |
