Show j IU'gler has never missed a day; it l has ftjpeared each Saturday morn-! morn-! ing as regularly as clock work, j We have not varied over half an ' hour from the usual time of getting thc papers into the postoflice. In order to sustain and preserve our j j good name for business punctnali- ! i ty, we have t:ni3 and time agaii' ; been compelled to labor far into the night. But we did it gracefully grace-fully and cheerfully to maintain this punctuality which is something some-thing extraordinary for a newspaper newspa-per just starting. Again sincerely thanking you for your kind and liberal patronage, patron-age, wo will close our first yearly ! salute. osi: y i:a it old. Tomorrow Tin: Bi'gleh will be just one year old. On June 14th, 1890, our initial issue was sent Hying broadcast over Utah. That was the first newspaper ever published pub-lished in Brigham City. Wc got out such a neatjcreditable sheet on the start, that thc incredulous people of the place were fa rely amazed and hundreds of congratulations congra-tulations were we the recipients of next day. YA'c think we have also c n tinned to improve, each issue h'.dng an attempt to surpass its predecessor. We have made mistakes, mis-takes, wc admit, and many, too, at that, perhaps; but hope we have been greatly benefitted by them. One year ago today every ninety-nine ninety-nine men out of a hundred smiled and shook their heads dubiously when we ventured that we were going to start a paper in this City. '"It wont pay; you'll go under, young man," was thc almost universal uni-versal mind of thc public. This dubiety only whetted our youthful pluck and perseverance. So pulling pull-ing oil' our coat wc bravely shouldered shoul-dered the untried load; and now after one year of hard labor and undaunted persistency wc find ourselves comfortably leaning on our first mile stone. Our load is now much lighter and the road appears much smoother ahead. The innumerable masked pit-falls which threatened us all along the first mile are all safely passed. The hig pull is over and we now rest much easier. But, dear readers, do not for one moment suppose we wish to absorb all the credit for thc success of this newspaper enterprise. enter-prise. By all means, no. Wc have been materially assisted by many kind and liberal-hearted friends; assistance that wc should have fared ill without. Our advertisers have given our columns hearty patronage; the people in general have subscribed freely and our worthy corps of bright, intelligent intelli-gent correspondents have done their part nobly. All of whom we gladly glad-ly take tlits opportunity t eim e.'ely thank. Financially, too, The Bugler has been a decided success. But every cent of thc money that was made, however, has been turned back into the paper by way of increasing in-creasing our stock of type, machinery, machin-ery, stationery, job outfit, etc. So n i'.v we can boast one of the best paper plants and the most com-pleHy com-pleHy C'luipiu'djoliofhces in Utah. Tins c instant expense of additional material and machinery will continue con-tinue for years, before which time wc can expect to realize little. But wc feel we are thus building up a paper that ultimately will be a lasting monument of good to Box Elder county. Our next acquisition shall be a $1,500 cylinder press. We are negotiating for and hope to he tilde t t pnivhase the same within the year. Every dollar we place in our paper plant builds up the t wn and enriches it just so much. This enterprise has conic to stay, and we will heon top or not "in it." Oar position and condition are growing grow-ing stronger every day. We can truth Tally say. The Biolkii is now solidly established. This paper venture was conceived and the frail hark launched hy one of "our hoys;" an inexperienced youth of Brigham City. This is an honor U our City and far b- tier than to have procrastinated the event until foreign brains an 1 capital capi-tal had crept in and controlled thc enterprise. We have gained bashols of h.'ncfioial experience daring the past year in the loir', toilsome race against countless dlhculties and innumerable obstacles. ob-stacles. Still, we are well aware we have much to Irani yet. The chief object of The Bccleh lias been t i promote the welfare of the peopb-of Brigham City and Box Kld.-r county. Has it failed in this, then we have overlooked our first and last purp.iso. Dr.ring this entire year Titr |
