Show VALLEY FARMS TO BE DRAINED One of the largest and one of the roost promising projects that was ever launched in Sanpete county has been Inaugurated by the farmers of Gunnison Valley In the formation of what will be known as the Sanpete County No. 1 Drainage district. The project was started by J. V. Nielson, A. A. Beck and others and the acreage acre-age that will bo under drainage will be approximately 3, COO acres, owned by forty-eight land holders. Since the project was first started things have been moving and It is expected by those in charge that ditchers will be at work not later than the first of August and before fall many of the farms will have been put. under a first-class drainage drain-age system and again brought back to a high productive stage. Application Appli-cation for acceptance of the petitions have been presented to the board of county commissioners and the hearing hear-ing has been set for June 7. Inasmuch Inas-much as the proposition is of much Importance to every land owner in the district, there is little or nor opposition op-position and there is but little doubt but what the petitions will be granted grant-ed at the June meeting. Some twenty years ago the lands Involved in the district were of a high productive natture and compared com-pared favorably with the best in the valley. With, the introduction of Irrigation, and as a natural result of the ordinary use of water, the low lands have become water-logged, greatly reducing the productive value. "With an up-to-date drainage system installed there .is every chance to increase the value of the lands all the way from 70 to 100 per cent and the lands which for many years have been used for pasture purposes only will be made to produce pro-duce prolifically for the owners. |
