On account of the food scarcity and the need for increased production, the premier was hard put to think of a suitable man to fill the post of president presi-dent of the board of agriculture. A political colleague, overhearing Mr. Lloyd George speak of his difficulty, said to him. "I know thevery man you want for agriculture." "Who is that?" asked Mr. Lloyd George. "Prothero, of course," was the reply. re-ply. "Prothero, Prothero," exclaimed Mr. Lloyd George. "Let's see, isn't that the man I had a controversy with the man I once called the duke of Bedford's butler, or something of that sort? Why, that's the very man I want." Roland E. Prothero was an old-time old-time political foe of the premier's, but that made no difference so long as he was an efficient man for the post. |
