Show His Ignorance Was Profitable. A writer says in Farm and Fireside S "Claude McLaughlin of Montrose county, coun-ty, Colo., made $231 from alfalfa seed from exactly two acres last year, entirely en-tirely by accident. This two acres of alfalfa was in its second year's growth, but; was on new ancl infertile land and had been so starved for water that he thought it not worth cutting for hay. He therefore let It stand and continued contin-ued without water, preferring to use his irrigation water on what he thought were more valuable crops. Ia the early fall he noticed the alfalfa had gone to seed, and there was a surprisingly sur-prisingly large amount of seed. So It was cut and stacked and In March, 1916, threshed. He sold the seed and got $231 from the two acres. His culture cul-ture was the proper thing to grow alfalfa al-falfa seed. Have a thin stand and Irrigate Irri-gate just enough to keep It fresh, but not to force the growth of rank stalks. Then It will make good bloom and much seed." |
