Show The Farmers' Institute. The Farmers' institute held in this city yesterday was not so well attended attend-ed as was expected, especially at the afternoon session. The day selected seemed to have been unfortunately placed at a time when other attractions attrac-tions were on to interfere. But there was much interest shown by those who attended and valuable instruction instruc-tion was gained from the discussions. The speakers announcd respectively respective-ly for this city and Axtell exchanged, Prof. Eldredge and Miss McCheyne being here for the afternoon and Dr. Evans and Miss Lyman at night. The men attending were shown the urgency of providing against th migrating of the young people, a means to that end being their acquirement ac-quirement of land and stock and a knowledge of more intense farming. The woman's section took up the advisability of forming a home economics association in Gunnison, to become affiliated with like organizations organi-zations in this state. Miss Gertrude McCheyne disoutsed the value of such an organization from the standpoint of cooperation among the housewives, for the betterment of general home and civic conditions. The women at the meeting felt that when Buch very excellent material Is furnished free of charge by the state as is furnished by these associations, they cannot afford to let it pass unnoticed. un-noticed. So in the evening meeting it was decided to hold a meeting of all the women and young girls of Gunnison .at 3 p. m. on Tuesday, June 9, in the Presbyterian chapel. Mrs. R. L. Clark, president of the Literary society will act aa chairman Miss Lyman will be present, and all the women's organizations of the place are invited to be represented. Up to date, in Sanpete county there ;. are two live associations one at May-field May-field and one at Sterling. Several of the towns in the northern part of the state are considering organizations in the near future. Gunni6on will not -be behind the rest. |
