Show CENTERFIELD SHOWS INDUSTRIAL TRAIN PEOPLE GOOD TIME. Three Bij Meetings. Music and Banquet. Special to The Gazette- Monday, February 26, was a day long to be remembered in Centerfield, The farmers' industrial train- arrived at the Gunnison statioa Sundav even-niug, even-niug, svveral hours ahead cf the appointed ap-pointed tine. The early arrival of the train afforded splendid opportunity opportuni-ty for viewing the exhibits. Tlie train was visted in the forenoon fore-noon and a goodly number of people , the silver band accompanying aud pupils of the seventh and eighth grades, with their teacher, O. W. Mc Coukie, joining in the holiday scene. The immense exhibit was viewed with iuttrest and many good lessons learned through contact with demonstrations demon-strations of the actual work in agriculture agri-culture aud its attendant subjeets there illustrated aud which were fully ful-ly explained by the staff of professors. The trip was. enjoyed immensely. Meetings were addressed in the afternoon, at the opera house for men aud in the maetinghouee for ladies'. Iu the eveniug another big meeting for all took place in the opera house. The subjects treated were: H L. Cushiug, traveling passenger agent D. & R. G., on "What the railway is doing to help the farmer:" J.Edward Taylor, state horticulture inspector, on ' The basis of a good orchard :" Miss Lea ii Ivius, on "Labor saving devices ia. the home ;'' John T. Caine III, ou "More livestock for Utah farms;" L M. Windsor, on, Duty aud Measurement of water ;" P. V. Cordon, on ' Potatoes ou the dry farm." The meetings were well attended at-tended and will prove of immenss benefit to our wide farming section. Music aud songs wer6. dispensed at intervals to the pleasure of all at tending, The band, made things lively both here and at Gunnison during the .visit of the professors. Not least among the features was the banquet tendered some thirty-five guests at the hours intervening the afternoun and evening lectures. The commercial club of Centerfield took the initiative in making the occasion oc-casion one that can certainly be pointed to with pride as a mark of progress in our community and shpivs what can be doue when all hands are united, Per Peterson's exhibit in the opera house W ednesday was notso well attended. Mr. Peterson, however, seems to have a promising out ook for his water power invention, but needs financial backing to accomplish practical results. The priests conducted last Sunday's Sun-day's sacramental service in a very creditable manner. |
