Show OLD FOLKS EVENT GRAND AFFAIR. Yesterday was a glorious occasion for the old people of Gunnison. Sunshine Sun-shine sud kindness of the elements throughout the day lent supreme comfort to the enjoyment. Praise was unstinted, commending Chairman Chair-man Anderson and corps of assistants J who had planned and worked so un-tiringly un-tiringly this honor to the old people. The banquet, served shortly after the noon hour at the It. S. hall, was an inspiring scene. Miugling with those up to eigbtysix years old were Bges ranging amorig the guests down to the fifties. The spread was bounteous and of such tempting amusing Btories told in his usual happy style. Miss Hubbard rendered a beautiful beauti-ful song, with piano accompainment by Miss Nora Weiser. Miss ' Winder read a humorous sketch, and did it in a way that made listening to her a real delight. Nephi Gledhll sang for the closing number "God Bless the Old Folks," Miss Carrie Tollestrup at the piano, the audienoe joining in the chorus shown on the screen f,8 each of the three versers euded. Words of the chorus are: God bless the old folks, s ' God bless the old folks, Bless their declining years and cheer them on their way, God bless the old folks, " The aged, honored old folks, : God bless the old folks day by day. Never were tfie old fulks better or more pleased thaa they seemed after the eotertaiumsnt had closed, and it was in thin mood the major part of them repaired to tb,e relief ball and there partook of a second repast of earth's bouuties. The eveoiug was spent in dancing, a big crowd of the middle aged and of the. young folks joining in this part f the day's doings, given in the opera house. The Old Folks' day this year was a "hummer." To ihose who hid the affair in charge is deserving much praise and it was bo voted by all of the guests. Edwards, Clara Ludvigsou, Sarah Edwards, Lexie Edwards, Nora Ekelof, Andrea Chris-tensou, Chris-tensou, Nora B. Jensen, Nancy Weiser, Wei-ser, Elizabeth Peterson, Annie Ken-ney, Ken-ney, Linda Jensen, Lena Madspn, Hilda Olson, Nora A. Jensen, Lottie Roper and Edna Childs, and Miss Tilda Larson,. variety as to pioloug the feast, one of the more elderly of' the guests remarking re-marking as the feaBt ended "the onlp objection! see is we are all 'full.' " Handshaking and a general social time had preceded the banquet and all was congeniality as the crowd mingled in groups upon leaviug the tables. The guests were then arranged in procession led by veterans N. C Tollestrup and H. M. Garrick and were thus escorted by the committee to the C-ieiuo theatre. Here the com pany was entertained by a splendid program and fine set of motion pictures. Messrs. Duggin & Son bad kindly teudered the place and their services of the show complimentary compli-mentary and by way of surprise gave at the close a silk waist pattern to the oldest lady present and a pair of shoes to the oldest gentleman. The favored ones to receive these prizes were Mrs. Margaret Duffin, aged 86 on the 1st of April, and Peter Rose-' burg aged. 80 a month ago. Preliminary to the pictures Bishop James Rasmusson spoke to tha honored honor-ed guests in endearing terms, congratulating con-gratulating the committee in charge and commending the custom of an nual reunion that brings together the aged. Messrs. Swalberg, Fer?e, Kearns and Bird followed with a touching rendition and with beautiful blend of voices, ' "Old Black Joe." Judge Cherry responded with a few |
