Show LORIMER IS NOW ON TRIAL Committee Investigating Charges That. Election of Illinois Senator Was Tainted With Bribery. Chicago. Senator Julius C. Burrows of Michigan, chairman of the senate committee that was chosen 10 investigate investi-gate the election of Senator William Lorimer of Illinois, arrived here on Monday, with others of the committee, for the purpose of investigating the charges that the election of Lorimer was tainted with bribery. Among, other things which will be determined is what evidence will be asked for by the committee. The general gen-eral impression is that much testimony testi-mony will be declared admissible before be-fore the committee which in a criminal crimi-nal trial would be held incompetent. The investigating committee, which is a sub-committee of the senate on privileges and elections, is composed of the following senators: Chairman, Julius C. Burrows, Michigan, Republican; Repub-lican; Welden B. Heyburn. Idaho, Republican; Re-publican; Robert J. Gamble, South Dakota, Republican; William B. Dillingham, Dil-lingham, Vermont, Republican, whose place is to be taken by Morgan G. Bulkley. Connecticut, Republican; James B. Frazier, Tennessee, Democrat; Demo-crat; Thomas H. Paynter, Kentucky, Democrat, and Joseph F. Johnston. Alabama, Democrat. |
