Decree Issued Calling for Evacuation of Military Zone Around Forts, It Being Probable Tenants Will be Asked to Destroy Property. Paris. The French capital is rushing rush-ing its plans to resist a siege by the German army. The city is being turned into an entrenched camp. Following the decree issued by the military governor ordering residents of the districts within action of the city's defending line of forts to exac-uate exac-uate and destroy their houses, enormous enor-mous stocks of food were placed in the state warehouse. The Bois de Boulgne presents a picturesque pic-turesque aspect. It has been transformed trans-formed into a vast pasture filled with cows and sheep. The animals have been divided into groups and are guarded by reserves wearing the large shirts of drovers. The number of sheep pastured in the parks exceeds 10,000. The decree calling for the evacuation evacua-tion of the military zone around the forts Vas a. formal notice, although army engineers recently made a tour of the environs of the forts and explained ex-plained that" tenants might be called on to destroy their property, which was deemed an obstruction. Many houses in the line of fire are occupied by peoples whose sons are now at the front. A large number of these families lack resources and wi'l be without refuge. Nevertheless they took the situation without complaint, although some addressed a petition to the military governor, requesting that he use the power vested in him jnly as a last extremity. |
