Show The New Western Pacific Railroad. The transportation event of 1910 was the completion and opening for freight and passenger traffic of the Western Pacific railway, the Pacific; coast extension of the Denver & Rio Grande railroad. The Western Pacific is conceded to be the best new railroad ever laid down. Approximately 1,000 mLes long, every mile is laid with rails weighing 85 pounds to the yard. The rise or fall does hot exceed 52 feet to the mile even when crossing the Sierras. Sier-ras. Its bridges are of steel and concrete. con-crete. Its modern stations, mostly of Spanish type, are very artistic and exceptionally attractive. The passenger passen-ger equipment is all steel and the cars are electrically lighted.'
