Show Boot-Legger Convicted and Sentenced. Mt. Pleasant Pyramid. The oase of the State of Utah vs Zachariah Kump of Chester, charged with selling whiskey to minors, has been holding the attention of Justice O. N, Olemensen for three days this week. It was a hard fought legal battle with Judge Jacob Johnson defending and County Attorney George Chris-tensen Chris-tensen representing the state. Judge Johnson made a most vigorous vigor-ous and able fight, but with all his skill, was unable to break tbe chain of evidenoe gathered by the prose oution. After-two full days of taking testimony testi-mony and arguing, the case was fiual-ly fiual-ly submitted to the jury Wednesday evening, and Bfter an hours deliberation, delibera-tion, found the defendant guilty as charged. Thursday morniost Justice Clemen-son Clemen-son imposed a penalty of siity days imprisonment and. a fine of fifty dollars. Much credit is due the county officials offi-cials for their efforts to punish and surpress the illicit lipuor traffic. The sheriff has been workiDg hard and other prosecutions will probably follow. |
