Show UTAH IN CHICAGO. J. H. llubburd YUlts the lair und tlic mull uuiiaiiiR. A letter from J. H. Hubbard of Willard, daleJ. at Chicago, says j their company of missionaries ar- i rived in that city all i ight and expected expec-ted to depart for their field of labor in the south July 7. In speaking of the Fair, Mr. Hubbard says: By certain well-known chractcr-istics, chractcr-istics, the Utah building may be; pieked out from among the structures struc-tures of her sisters. A beautiful bronze statue of Brigham Young adorns the left as you approach. You draw near and pass under an eagle gate, after the fashion of the eagle gate in Salt Lake City, then you know it is there to lepresenl the "land of Deseret." Ascending the steps to the platform you there see "UTAH" in bold letters on a: beautiful marble stone. But here arises your first and only doubt, and you marvel much. In letters quite as large and to foreigners cer i tainly more conspicuous you see, "Elius Morris." To us it looks ri-j ri-j diculous. One wonders if it is an j appendage to the name of our Tei-! Tei-! rilorv, or the name of its greatest man. This explains it all: he is in the stone preparing business in Salt Lake City. With all due respect to a man whom I believe to be a good honest citizen and an abie man, I think that name is out of place on that step. |
