Show LOCAL ECHOES. Mrs. W. Baker of Oxford, Idaho, formerly Miss Kate Robinson of Dover is spending a few weeks in Gunnison the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Sylvester Pierce. William Glasmann of Ogden will speak at a Republican rally in Gunnison Gun-nison next Wednesday night. Senator Reed Smoot will be the speaker at another Republican rally here during the week. Mrs. C. E. Halverson on Wednesday evening entertained at luncheon the members of the Self Culture club. The meeting, held on this occasion at night instead of afternoon to suit ths convenience of the hostess, was wholly whol-ly of a business nature and pertained to the arrangement for giving a Hallowe'en Hal-lowe'en party under the auspices of the club on the 28th. The funeral of Mrs. Mathilda M, Childs, wife of E. S. Childs, was held last Saturday from the Relief hall. The attendance taxed the capacity of the hall to its utmost. A goodly num. ber of relatives came from elsewhere and the services were uncommonly impressive. The speakers were Elders El-ders John Larson and Joseph Chris-tenson Chris-tenson and Bishop James Rasmusson. Singing was rendered by a mixed double quartet, the selections bsing "Though deep'ning trials," "O, My Father," "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," and "Nearer to Thee," Ernest Halverson, instructor in music and athletics at the E. S. A., last Friday morning left for Provo or elsewhere presumably for the purpose of securing some new athletic athle-tic apparatus. He returned Sunday on the stage and was accompanied by Mrs. Halverson until a few days before, be-fore, Miss Murial Bonnett of Pleasant View, near Provo. The license was procured on Saturday and the ceremony cere-mony immediately performed allowing allow-ing their immediate return to the Dale where they were very warmly received by the students with a rice-shoe-etc- conglomeration. We join in heartily welcoming the young couple to the Dale Emery County Progress, Oct. 17. In the R.N. A. hall last Saturday night was given a party in honor of Miss Nora Weiser, commemorative of her nineteenth anniversary. Thirty or more persons were present and had a pleasant time dancing, singing, listening lis-tening to music and playing games. Not least was the serving of a three-course three-course luncheon. Messrs.. Thorpe and Sevey of Axtell have a very creditable display of vegetables ve-getables and fruits, grown under the Highland canal, ori' exhibition in the drugstore window. The wonder is that some one doesn't take the initiative ini-tiative for a bumper fair here in Gunnison valley. When the editor of a country paper starts in on Monday morning to get up something for his paper in the way of interesting local news and finds, after nosing around, that nothing noth-ing has happened in the town or community com-munity that he can write up, aud.no-body aud.no-body gives in any personal or local news, and every fellow he talks to says, "I don't know a thing," and his liver is not working just right and he feels as though he had just as soon loop the loop with Lincoln Beachey as to go to workthat's the time when he would like to turn the job over to the "Smart Aleck" who thinks he could get up a better paper than the editor and not half try Ex. |
