Show FINALLY COMPLETED. Local Telephone Service Handy to Have. One of the city's Ion;,' needed wants was satified on Saturday when the new telephone system, which has been under construction for some time, was finally completed. The new system is up to date in every way. Special attention has been given to details and the service should be of the best. The equipment installed is of Western Electric company manufac-tuie, manufac-tuie, and is therefor of finest workmanship work-manship in every datail. All the latest devices known to advanced switchboard inanufucturing are incorporated in-corporated in it, and should be sufficient suf-ficient to care for Gunnison's needs for some time toccme. The growth of Gunnison city and environment should be given added impetus by the installation of this telephone service. The lack of it has certainly retarded her progress in the past, as the growth of any community com-munity is hampered if a telephone servcie is not at hand. This improvement is along the line of the telephone development which is sweeping over the country. New companies are rapidly springing up and the old companies are making equipment more efficient. Especially evident is thip movement in rural communities such as environ our city. The farmrr, although slow in taking up an innovation, ia quick to act when convinced of its value. The country ia gradually becoming a network ot telepuoue lines, inis is due largely to the fact that farmers are realizing that they have had an exaggreated idea of the cost of a telephone tele-phone service, and that it is cot a luxury as he originally believed. Instead, In-stead, he is finding that in reality it increases his nev income to an appreciable appre-ciable extent, after repaying the expense ex-pense incurred by its installation and the cost of maintenance--which a-mounts a-mounts to but a small sum- -as well. The system installed covers a circuit comprising with this city, Fayette, Centerfield, Axtell and the railway station. Mayfield will possibly possi-bly be included later. Universal as the telephone is today its future is even greater and the Gunnison Valley Telephone company com-pany should be commended for the spirit of progress it has Bhown. |
