Show ANOTHER INDUSTRY FOR GUNNISON VALLEY. Alfalfa Seed the Most Important of All Our Farm Products. TheGunnison Valley land company is now installing an alalfa seed J cleaning plant, with a capacity of 200 ba'gs per day, This establishment carries with it many advantages to the grower. It has been the custom of the buyer, in dayi gone by, to make a house to house canvass of the seed district, covering many days time in order to obtain samples of the seed, to be followed fol-lowed by that uncertain method, hand testing, to know the purity of the product, which forms the basis of the purchase price. In most cases ; where there iB an element of chance, or gamble, the man manipulating the machine has the advantage. The advisability of knowing what you sell, and obtaining the value for the same, is well established in every civilized method of trading. In other i words, the buyer of alfalfa seed is not paying the selle? for Gunnison grit, as some growers may imagine. If your seed is Bhipped in the dirt some one must pay the price for transportation. Gunnison grit when mixed with alfalfa seed, is worth no. no more than California or Nebraska dirt. The advantage of concentrating the many small lots of seed necessary to make a car-lot, in one building, obiviates the necessity of making such a canvass. The grower natural ly feels that such expense is the buyer'B business. That item, however, how-ever, like the transportation of the dirt, is not done without cost T he answer aa to who pays it is conveyed in the suggestion : The purchaser who bought your seed laHt year, at a loss, according to the rules of trade is not buying your seed this year. It is said that these mills will clean alfalfa seed at a greatly reduced price over the old method of hand mills. By comparison it would be like using the old flail as against the modern threshing machines of today. This is but the first step to a grain elevator for Gunnison. |
