Show FLOODS IN CALIFORNIA. Railroads Suffer Serious Losses While Some of the Residents Have Narrow Escapes. Los Angeles. After being isolated for forty-eight hours, as the result of a heavy rainstorm of four days' duration, dura-tion, partial communication again is established between Los Angeles and the outside world. There is still much concern felt by officials of the three transcontinental railroads reaching this city. Two long stretches of roadbed road-bed are w-ashed away between Los Angeles and San Bernardino' on the route used jointly by the Salt Lake and Santa Fe. Twelve 'persons, who had been marooned on a narrow strip of land between two branches of the Santa Ana river near Downey all night, when the river cut them off from escape, es-cape, were rescued early Sunday morning by members of the Venice life-saving crew. |
