| Show THE PUBLIC FORUM I 1 may not agree with what you say ay but will fight to the death for your right to say it voltaire editor green river acy bornal Jor j nal green river utah to the citizens of green river it is only a few days until the city election and I 1 have not heard any cracker box speeches or any of the candidates making a statement as to their platform A pledge to serve this community to the best of their ability is all the platform any of th em need being a taxpayer but not a voter I 1 am going to speak very frank for sometimes a newcomer can see th ings that should be changed or diff erent approaches made to correct situations that exist in most small towns and green river is no ex caption no town or city is large enough to have its citizens el divided when it comes to the question of electing public city officials for they cepres ent all the citizens and should work whole heartly for the growth and benefit of the entire community pol itice race religion and other or membership should be forgotten if you vote for a man be cause he belongs to a certain organ then you are a poor citizen but if you vote for him for what he is and what he stands for and the betterment of the community then yge have done your duty well this town is on the verge of a real boom it has everything to make it grow plenty of water railroad good high ways plenty of electric power and natural resources that are being de and which will last for years and years you cannot stop progress you can delay it and progress here has been delayed by some non progressive gres sive citizens who ho are satisfied with letting things be as they are most small towns have a few like that which are soon left behind and forgotten progress has also been slowed w ed do wn by certain certa in ordinances that th at have been put into effect they have re strict stricter ed building budding finance for con st ruction and other things and sh be corrected some of the fea tures were sponsored and come ordinances by persons with selfish personal reasons who were afraid of completion com petion and wished to keep it out good completion com petion is good for all business as it keeps you pro gres sive and makes better service for the public and will increase your own business I 1 do not advocate changing all the city ordinances for the majority are good but I 1 do advocate chang the ones that retard progress of this town and I 1 hope that the voters on election day will do their part in electing officers who will depre sent all the citizens and work to make green river one of the best towns in utah it can be done if all cooperate by working together and I 1 am sure this will be a better place to live sincerely jimmie nixon |
