Show THE" FORMULA" WORKED ALL RIGHT A well-known Utah mine and mill operator who is handling a company's' property in a near-by county has had' an experience that his friends delight to tell about. In addition to the mine and mill that he is operating he also has a large tract of land in orchard and garden that is irrigated by the water from the tunnel through which the mine is worked. He has prided himself on the manner in which he has kept up this garden and orchard and on the class of hogs and chickens , he has been able to raise as well. Several months back, when grass-1 hoppers threatened to make a clean-! up of everything that grew he secured ! a Bulletin from the Agricultural De-' partment which explained how to de-l stroy grasshoppers. ' Mr. Mine Manager ordered all the materials recommended in the govern-' ment formula, including molasses, sulphur, sul-phur, arsenic and a number of other deadly poisons. He mixed up a barrel of the "plaster" and spread it around to trap the grasshoppers; and he gath-j ered them up by the bushel. He then fed the hoppers to the! chickens and killed them. Then he fed the chickens to the' hogs and killed them. j It is related that he then thought of j selling the hogs; but he finally decid- ed that possibly the grasshoppperj "dope was responsible for what hadi happened, so he buried the hogs to, save the lives of the coyotes that sing him to sleep every night. He is said to be a "little touchy"1 when grasshoppers are mentioned and carries a 'gun." |
