Show AND THOSE SOUTHERN GREEN-HORNS BIT! THE ludicrous gullibility of the Democratic committees of the house and senate who were so impressed with the so-called Gar-abed Gar-abed invention for the production of free energy has been emphasized by the publication of the details of that contrivance as it was found by the investigating committee. Essentially the machine consisted of a heavy fly-wheel. The wheel was set in rotation by a man at a crank. After it had attained a certain speed the man withdrew and a small electric motor was connected to the wheel. Although the motor was but a fraction of a horse-power it was sufficient to keep the wheel in motion. Then the machine was suddenly stopped; and an instrument used to measure the force required to stop it. That was found to be several horse-power, and the difference between that figure fig-ure and the power of the motor was declared to be energy developed by the machine. Any school boy would have known that the energy in the flywheel was imparted to it by the man who started it, and that it required an equal effort to stop it, the motor merely overcoming the friction on the bearings and through the air. That so many members of congress were deceived by the contrivance is certainly a sad commentary on the intelligence of the men now directing our affairs. |
