Show SAUNTERINGS Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Elsworth Darling announce an-nounce the engagement of their daughter, Jane to Dale Langwell Smith. The wedding will take placo the evening of October 31, at the home of ,. the bride, and a reception will follow later. The jf bride will be attended by Mrs. Earl V. Smith as matron of honor, Miss Helen Ellerbeck will be maid of honor, and the bridesmaids will be the -t- Misses Denise Karrick, Gladys Savage, Beth Bald win and Guila Dix. Little Miss Betty Smith will be the flower girl. Earl V. Smith will be best man, and the ceremony will be performed by the Rev. Elmer I. Goshen. The announcement means the addition of an important matrimonial event to those already scheduled for the fall and winter season in society, so-ciety, and owing to the popularity of the bride-to-be numerous affairs in her honor are being planned to take place preceding the wedding. vu Miss Darling is a charming and accomplished girl, $ possessed of brilliant wit and fine personality, and has a host of friends in society circles. Mr. Smith is one of the prominent young business men of the city and is popular in club and society so-ciety circles. The wedding will be one of the brilliant affairs of the season and smart society, the members of which will receive their invitations invita-tions early in the week, will be out in force. Miss Gladys Savage and Miss Beth Baldwin will give an announcement tea for Miss Darling at the Savage residence this afternoon. Miss Helen Ellerbeck will entertain at a luncheon lunch-eon at the Utah on Wednesday, and during the . fortnight to follow Miss Darling will entertain at ft an affair for her wedding party and others who 1 will be hostesses at various affairs given in her 1 1 honor will be Mrs. Earl V. Smith, Mrs. Daniel v Guernsey, Miss Guila Dix and Miss Denise Kar rick. One of the liveliest parties ever seen on the roof of the Hotel Utah was that given by some distinguished people, who were recently in the city, and who always reciprocate in a lavish manner man-ner for the entertainment afforded them during their stay. On this occasion some of the guests, for whose actions the host and hostess were of course not responsible, tore up the shrubbery and threw the food as they used to at the goat on the family roof at Park City before pay dirt was discovered. dis-covered. But the gracious host and hostess overlooked over-looked their antics, realizing that people of their lack of breeding, when they suddenly become rich, often imagine their new money means license, li-cense, and that in its possession they are privileged priv-ileged to act as the boors they were originally intended to be. What's bred in the bone will come out somewhere, and if a roof garden affords the opportunity that is the place. Jn When are we to have the announcement of the engagement of the belle of the town? Soon I hear, and society is impatiently awaiting the glad tiding. Both are so popular that when the news appears there will be a riot of entertaining enter-taining in their honor, and they owe it to their friends to tell about it soon, for things are comparatively com-paratively dull socially and it is up to some one to enliven proceedings. A diamond as big as a door knob ought to mean something to the smart set. People who live in new houses, particularly new houses in Yale avenue, should pull down the blinds, unless they are partial to the Tanguay theory, of "I don't care." Mrs.. George J.
