H W'E wonder if the majority of the people have closely studied the H literature issued by the food administration, and we refer more H particularly to the imperative regulators that are laid down for the H public eating places. We do this, not from any sense of criticism H for it must be granted that hotels, restaurants, clubs, etc., are faith- H fully following all of the orders save one. The unanimity with which H the portions diminish is only equalled by the unanimity with which H the prices do not. The food purveyors follow the instructions con- H cerning meats which should be cut to the best advantage the order H is vague as to whose advantage and as small as practicable to meet H the requirements of patrons. The one-half ounce of butter grows H more and more emaciated every day; the crisp bread is only a fond H memory; the one-time humble cheddar is conspicuous by its absence jH from the side of its old companion, applie pie ; and the order for no jH cream containing over 20 per cent of butter fat is religiously obeyed. H In fact no man or woman can truthfully say that all the orders of the H food administration are not being rigidly followed; all save one: H "Prices should be adjusted accordingly." This is the one regulation jH that all seem to overlook. jH |
