Show UTAH The "Utah theatre begins the second week of the season of 1914-1915 tomorrow evening with '$ the presentation of the famous four-act drama, entitled "The Witching Hour." Augustus Thomas, the famous American playwright, play-wright, has contributed many notable plays to the American public, but none has made a deeper Impression than his famous story, "Thb Witching Hour," which will be played at the Utah all next week, with matinees Thursday and Saturday. The story is one of virility and power and enterb the realms of psychology in a manner that is thrilling and entertaining. Rehearsals have been going on all week and a finished and scholarly presentation of the Thomas play is assured. The principal character in the story is Jack Brookfield, a gambler, who provides expensive amusement to the tired business man, in a palatial pala-tial resort in Louisville, Ky. Among his patrons Is a prominent politician who conceives a tender feeling for Jack's neice. His attentions are discouraged dis-couraged by Jack for two reasons. One is that the young woman has a fondness for a young man,, the son of a former sweetheart of Jack's, now a widow. The other reason is that the politician, poli-tician, Hardmuth by name, was implicated in a plot which culminated in the murder of a former governor of the state. A patron of the place meets young Clay Whipple, the son of Jack's one-time sweetheart, l and knowing that the young man has a peculiar II aversion to a "Cat's Eye" pin, torments Whipple I until the latter, in a fit of rage, kills him. I Through the iniluenco of Hardmuth, Clay is coqn- I victed of murder, but a new trial is secured jl through Judge Prentice of the supreme court. II The judge was at one time in love with Clay's II grandmother. Eventually the young man is freed. II Jack Brookfield quits gambling and is accepted I by his boyhood sweetheart and later becomes a I candidate for governor of the state. I The play fairly teems with excitement. There II are thrilling situations that border on deep jl tragedy and yet there is an element of comedy II running through it all. In the cast will bo found jl Mr. Mackay as Brookfield; Wilson Reynolds plays l Judge Prentice. Pell Trenton has been cast for the jl part of Hardmuth; Jason Robards plays Clay Jl Whipple. The part of Lew Ellinger will be In the II hands of Arthur Morse Moon. I |
