who introduced john D peters as chairman ot of the meeting dwight wright and newell ward rendered two cornet and trombone duet tos with piano accompaniment by mrs airs victor watkins E S chambers of logan democratic nominee for district judge was the first speaker realizing that the people came out to hear the other speakers he said he would deter defer ills his remarks until the first meeting of the district court in january mr air francis addressing the audience as his true friends said he would try to express the things down deep in his hia heart and give the voters the true conditions as they exist in this campaign he told of 0 how the republican party had drifted from its original principles and had played into the hands of the moneyed interests against the welfare of the masses he discussed the trusts and the large monopolies that had been protected by tariff legislation until they had grown strong to the disadvantage of the people in general A tariff would place these large industries on n the same basis as the industries i it if f other nations and create a competition that would be beneficial to tha he people he said according to a democratic policy the speaker stated that all that we have in life after we get a little to eat and a few of the sary comforts is the contribution we give to our fellow man unless we build into our existence the finer things we have missed the great purpose in life senator king delivered a splendid oration on the issues of the campaign from a democratic standpoint holding his large audience spellbound spell bound from the very start he stressed the importance of activity by the people in governmental affairs stating that when people stagnate and do not take an interest in a the government it falls into the hands of corrupt men an interest of the people in their government will alone make good government senator king then discussed the development of the two national parties in the united states and sought to show that the democratic party had been and still was the party of the people ever seeking for progress the claim was made that most all the progressive gres sive reforms as income tax wom an suf farage direct
