Show SETTING A HIGH STANDARD FOR FUTURE SHOWS. From whatever point of view it may be considered, con-sidered, says the Automobile, the seventh annual show of the Association of Licensed Automobile Manufacturers must be put down as the most held in this country. Whether regarded from a purely esthetic standpoint, or its reverse, the absolute ab-solute commercial view, including as it does that far from unimportant consideration of matters financial, the show must be conceded to represent, an event that will go down into history as having marked a hitherto unapproachable achievement, as well as setting a standard for future events, tltat will call for strenuous endeavors and no little lit-tle outlay if it is to be equaled. Those who had an opportunity of seeing for themselves the magnificent setting that was prepared pre-pared for the automobile, as well as the beauty and mechanical soundness of the cars that occupied occu-pied every available foot of space on the main floor and elevated platform of the Garden, need no statistics to impress upon their minds the vast-noss vast-noss of the showing nor the elaborate scale on which things were done,, while to those who were not so fortunate they must fall to convey anything but a hazy idea. However, a few random figures may not be amiss in that they, serve to give an inkling of the extent of the industry that was rep- tl i f fl resented by the gala showing. For instance, 45 exhibitors displayed 230 cars of all typos, bos' " jb 8 I which there were put on view eight of the racing J . cars that took part in last year's Vanderbilt cup S I ' race. MA These ranged in price from $400 to $12,500, ll ) j ; H probably averaging something like $2,000 each for .1 1 the whole, so that this part of the show alone was j-ji-f J valued at close to half a million dollars in round iff j J numbers. Add to this the vast assortment of 3 1 1 ' wares, many of them of an expensive nature, IrJ' 1 shown by the 204 exhibitors of accessories who A JM occupied every square inoh of floor room that fj!'' i could be utilized for showing cars, and the value II f of the whole approaches a figure that far outshad- ! ows anything of the kind ever attempted in this i or any other lino of endeavor. If this were not w' enough, the mere fact that the association, under ;f , 'M tne auspices of which the show was held, felt jj j j justified in spending such a slim of money to orna- l f 1 1 1 ment the building for one week is sufficient to in- J J dlcate the truly elaborate scale on which the affair if''') ',1 was managed. Concerning the show's status as y ( j jH an annual fixture of the metropolitan winter sea- f son, the annoucement that the city's most promi- j'-fv 1 nent hostelries were all full to overflowing Is am- 7J- ' pie evidence of the strength of its attraction. Hi ' ' iH This taken in connection with the statement that Jf , the last Horse Show did not fill the hotels, is a M stronger indication than ever of its potonce. J |
