Show Queen Tlyi. B In the Geographic Magazine is- an account of B the discovery, a year ago this present month, by B Mr. Theodore M. Davis, of Newport, Of Queen B Tjyi's .tgmb and mummy in Egyp't. .Qijen ,Tiyi B -was not of noble birth, but gained -the throne B through her marvelous beauty, be'coniing' Qjieen B of Amenhotep II. She ruled Egypt when 4 it was B at the height vof its ipower and wealth, sqme 3500 B years ago. B Her mummy was in a noiden' coffin made in B human . form and richly studded with jewels and B precious stones. A vulture d,iadem of gold was B placed around her head, and thg .body was B Wrapped in sheets of gold. The tomb contained B four canopic vases, beautiful alabaster vases and B dishes, and exquisite inlaid. furniture. B The picture of the head and face of the mum- B my shows that she must have been most beauti- B ful. She no doubt dreamed in her lifetime that B she would fix a place where her final sleep would B never be disturbed, but now she will be on ex- B hibition in the Museum of Cairo for modern vul- B garians to look upon. How long has been her B sleep in her golden robes, asleep while the cen- B turies have ebbed and flowed, only to be brought B out at last for modern men to gaze at and to won- B der if, after all, human nature has changed and B if there is any new thing under the sun. The ro- B mance and awe that hangs about old Egypt will B evidently never bo lessened. She and her Nile B will always bo the concernment of men. As the B Nile flowed on for ages and men wondered where B its squrco was, so men now gaze out upon the B sajjds that have sifted above her temples and B tombs and wonder if ever tho real story of the B immeasurable past will be revealed. Is the B record hidden away in some temple or tomb that B is yet to be uncovered? Is the story to be told B of what was there while yet the world was B young, and while as yet over the record of time B it was sweet to dwell? We only know that B Egypt was rich, that even then men were as will- B ing to bow down before the charms of women as H thoy "still are, that thon as now men shrink from H the thought of annihilation, and sought to pre- H servo their identity even after death.
