Show j A DESERT DREAM. j The round-domed mosques and minarets Stand clear and white across the plain, i Against the purple epaulet Of the haze-hidden mountain chain. The pool! The palms! The thirst forgot. i Across the dazzling white sand lies i The lost one's green oasis spot, 1 The weary traveler's paradise. I chant the prayer the Moslem prays, j And list for the muezzin's cry. ( I feel no more the sun's hot raps; My tongue no more is parched and dry. ; My heart again is strong and bold; ! I turn to where my camel stands; Then rub my eyes, for I behold i Mirage on the Mojave sands. I Pacific Monthly. ' |
