Show MOTOR MOTIONS The suggestion we made a week ago that motor mo-tor car joy riders be allowed to efface themselves in whatever particular sort of smash-up appeals most strongly to them, has met with such hearty support that it seems a shame the suggestion is considered somewhat impractical by the city council coun-cil and for that reason the proposed new auto ordinance for Salt Lake is still being dallied with. Meanwhile the police and other authorities are helpless to stop speeding, dangerous driving and U drivers and the latter breed of coyotes are mul- F tiplying at a rate that threatens the safety of iff traffic on every road in the city and county. From all indications, the speed maniac has struck Salt i Lake with enough pent up energy to more than . make up for the past two or three years here when automobiling was comparatively free from I the rats who have squirmed their way in behind the steering wheels. ' The ordinance now under consideration ought to contain enough stringent provisions on the matter mat-ter of dangerous driving and the speeding of cars to frighten joy riders into decency and if that fails, to punish them unmercifully. On August 1 the new Callan auto law goes into effect in I New York and its provisions bodes ill to the wrong kind of drivers there. |
