Show studebaker six goes up in smoke tuesday night of last week a new studebaker six automobile belonging to george M ward bishop of f the washakie Wash akle indian ward was destroyed by lire fire and bishop ward was severely burned by gasoline flames he drove the car into the field where his son was running a tractor and was in the act of drawing off some gasoline from the tank of the car when an explosion followed he placed a lighted lantern some distance behind the car while he was drawing oil nil the gasoline and it appears that the wind carried the gas fumes to the lantern ind caused an ignition his son soil L rushed t to 0 his father who was all aflame arid and with a quilt beat out the most ot of tire the tire fire on liis his clothing but had to role him in the dirt and pile dirt on his arms and legs to put ut out the blazing gas but mr ward was badly burned before the fire was smothered out he would have burned to death but tor for the aid of his son by this time t the he flames were blazing high from the burning tank of gasoline and with shovels and dirt they tried to save the car but their efforts were fruitless and the car was burned the car was insured to the amount of the unpaid balance due the firm from whom mr air ward purchased the mr car garland gariand globe |
