Show Suppose the United States was at war with Great Britain. Suppose Reed Smoot had sworn allegiance to Great Britain as often as he has to this "Kingdom of God on Earth," then suppose he were found in arms and taken prisoner by the British, could anything prevent his being shot as a traitor? In the same way, if he gets a seat in the Senate of the United States, subject as he is bound to be, to the First Presidency in this city, how can he convince those who know the real facts that he is not a spy? |
